One of the most authentic ways of furnishing the house is by using antique items that survived the tests of time and thus became more and more valuable. Antique bedroom furniture includes a wide spectrum of objects, from dressers, chests of drawers, beauty tables and various frames, to wardrobes, beds and blanket chests. Antique bedroom furniture can be recognized by the detailing of the pieces and accessories and by its predominant colors: mahogany, burgundy and darker earthy tones.

Antique bedroom furniture, although it includes pieces that are no longer made like the davenports and some that considerably changed their aspect, can be characterized by a certain pattern of colors, lines and detailing. The dress tables have serpentine drawers with brass motives or sculpted wood and wide mirrors with thick solid wood frames. The Victorian davenports, usually made of walnut in mahogany tones, include drawers with silky interiors and leather writing surfaces - these were used by the officials for completing the documents of the time.

Chests of drawers were very popular in the Victorian ages, especially the ones with bracket feet and carved details. The chaise lounges and settees are presented in curvy shapes and covered in precious fabrics, like damask, with solid oak or walnut legs; sometimes, the backboards present waves, buttons or asymmetries that accentuate the Victorian look.

The bedside cupboards are found in various forms and sizes. The predominant size is medium to large and the most changing element are their feet: from straight slender legs, attached to square tops, to bent and round ones and in the shape of “S,” the cupboards’ and nightstands’ legs got more artistic during the early Victorian ages, in opposition with the 18th century’s ones, characterized by simplicity and rigidity. The most frequently met antique beds are elaborated pieces, with curtains and frills hanging from a cord attached to the ceiling. All 18th and 19th century’s aristocracy members owned one of these sumptuous, large and rich looking beds, which were very expensive even then, mostly because of the big quantities of necessary precious textile, used as a curtain.

Antique bedroom furniture represents artistic meticulousness of admired old crafts and techniques and it gets even more expressive, due to its darker tones that somehow symbolise their durability and time investment. The features of antique bedroom furniture vary from simple and austere closets with exclusive practical usage to highly decorative pieces that combine the utility with the art and so, they cover all needs and aesthetic options.
